The GDUSBC, in an effort to keep the bowler updated on upcoming events and tournaments, have purchased and delivered Flier Kiosks to all of the bowling centers in Dayton association. This along with the branding of our logo across any of our correspondence will easily help the bowler identify the GDUSBC hosted event. The fliers that will be included in the kiosk will be GDUSBC tournaments, events such as fish fry and golf outing, hall of fame information, all city information, and the mission statement to name a few. State and National USBC entry forms will also be included. This will be a one stop shop for all GDUSBC events.

Take a look next time you go to the lanes to see what is going on now and within the next couple of months.

Congratulations to all participants for a well attended tournament that saw an increase in doubles entries and only a slight decrease in total team entries.

Last update on the Raiders provided information about their first tournament, but failed to mention a few other outstanding individual performances.

Aaron Richter averaged 213 for his 4 games and Torrey Gerdes averaged 192 for his 4. They also had Clinton Boisel in 30th, Ryan Dobie in 39th, Joey Bobinger in 41st and Dan Sakaitas in 48th. On the women’s side, they also had Erin Dever in 13th, Erica Morgan in 14th and Justina Tibbs in 23rd. Jessica Rodman averaged an outstanding 181 for her 4 games and Sara Turpin and Kindra Snyder were at 176 and 173 for their 4 games.

Last weekend they competed in the Midwest Collegiate Tier 1 event for the first time. The 7 hour trip to Wisconsin proved worthwhile as the women finished 7th out of 27 schools and earned $370 and their men finished 11th out of 45 schools and earned $400. Heidi Sanders had an outstanding tournament and finished 3rd overall to make the All Tournament team with a 204 average for her 9 games. Other top WSU women were Kathryn Cox in 24th and Kristen Keenan in 35th. Shayna Kanemoto averaged 191 for her 4 games and Erica Morgan averaged 198 for her two games.

On the men’s side, Jay Foote was tops with his 55th place finish followed by Freshman Ryan Dobie in 99th. Ryan averaged 200 for his 8 games. Dean Reynolds averaged 195 for his 6 games, Ricky Brown averaged 195 for his 5 games, Curtiss Rasnic was at 194 for his 5 games and Justin Marcinko was at 202 for his 3 games.

ARLINGTON, Texas - When Bill O’Neill began bowling at the high school level, he set a goal of one day competing for Team USA. He will get that chance next week when he takes to the lanes at the 2009 Pan American Bowling Confederation Championships in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

O’Neill leads a star-studded field of the country’s top bowlers into an event they have dominated in recent years. Team USA’s men and women enter as the defending champions in every event – singles, doubles, trios, team, all-events and Masters.

The PABCON Championships will feature both men and women this year for the first time since 2005. In 2007, the men held their championships in Guatemala, and the United States captured every gold medal. Last year in Chile, the Team USA women dominated every event.

So if there wasn’t already pressure on O’Neill in his first Team USA event, he knows all expectations will be for the United States to continue its recent success.

“Competing for Team USA has been something I have wanted to do since I started bowling in high school,” said O’Neill, who was selected to the team in January by the Team USA coaching staff. “No matter what sport you play, representing your country is something that is a real honor, and I can’t wait to put on that Team USA shirt and get down to business.”

O’Neill, who will be joined on the men’s side by fellow Professional Bowlers Association exempt players Patrick Allen, Tommy Jones, Chris Barnes, Cassidy Schaub and amateur David Haynes, realizes there’s pressure on the team to bring home gold medals.

“I always feel pressure going into any event regardless of what it is, but once the event begins that goes away for me,” O’Neill said. “Once I am able to get on the lanes, I trust my ability to get the job done. Hopefully, in this event, that means multiple gold medals.”

The event also marks a return to team play for O’Neill, who was a standout player at Saginaw Valley State University earlier this decade.

“It has been over five years since I have been able to compete as part of a team, and it is something that I really miss,” said O’Neill, 27, a four-time first team collegiate All-American. “I really enjoy the feeling of doing something good and looking back and seeing a bunch of happy faces. It also adds a lot of pressure knowing if you don’t perform, you are letting an entire team down, which makes you a stronger individual bowler.”

On the women’s side, Team USA will send Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, Kim Terrell-Kearney, Diandra Asbaty, Lynda Barnes, Shannon O’Keefe and Shannon Pluhowsky.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will look to add to their medal counts at the PABCON Championships. Dating to 1961, Team USA has brought home 88 gold medals, 54 silver medals and 43 bronze medals for a total of 185. Mexico has the second-most with 94 total medals.

Competition is scheduled to begin Tuesday with singles and continues through Sept. 26 with the Masters competition, which features the top 16 men and top 16 women from the all-events standings.

The United States Bowling Congress is planning to provide live Web streaming of portions of the event throughout the week. For more details and specific live streaming schedules, visit BOWL.com during the PABCON Championships.

ARLINGTON, Texas – The United States Bowling Congress and ESPN will partner to bring a series of bowling events to a national television audience in 2010. The agreement calls for a multi-week package of telecasts on ESPN2 beginning in late April.

The series will include championship-round coverage of USBC’s Queens, Intercollegiate Team Championships and U.S. Women’s Open tournaments, as well as Bowling’s Clash of Champions.

The agreement brings the ITC finals to a larger platform on ESPN2 and upgrades the U.S. Women’s Open from a series of taped broadcasts to a live stepladder finals. The Queens returns again for a live telecast on ESPN2 as part of the agreement. Bowling’s Clash of Champions moves to ESPN2 as the only weekend telecast in the series.

“One of USBC’s primary goals is to increase visibility and excitement for the sport of bowling,” USBC Vice President of Media Pete Tredwell said. “Moving our collegiate championship to the ESPN family and ensuring both women’s majors are live finals is a great step.”

The live stepladder finals of the Queens, which will be contested in a specially constructed bowling arena built for the USBC Women’s Championships in El Paso, Texas, will start the series on April 28. A taped broadcast that combines the men’s and women’s ITC finals follows on May 5. The ITC finals also will be contested at the arena in El Paso.

The U.S. Women’s Open broadcast is scheduled for May 12, live from the new International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas. The new training center is currently under construction at the International Bowling Campus with completion scheduled for late 2009.

“The International Bowling Campus is the focal point for the sport,” Tredwell said. “We look forward to showcasing the best female bowlers at the world’s ultimate bowling facility on national television.”

Bowling’s Clash of Champions again will highlight the winners of USBC major tournaments in a made-for-TV showdown. The event will be taped at the arena in El Paso and is scheduled for broadcast May 8.

“We feel like the Clash is a valuable way to showcase our USBC champions and needed to be preserved,” Tredwell said. “Taping the Clash in conjunction with the ITC as a part of this ESPN2 series allows us to produce the telecast at a fraction of what it cost in the past.”

The agreement also allows for the rebroadcast of each telecast on ESPN at later dates. All announced air dates are subject to change.

Each year USBC awards five $5,000 scholarships in Anthony’s name to deserving student-athletes based upon academic achievement and civic involvement. Over the past five years, 25 young bowlers have received $125,000 in scholarship assistance, thanks to the Anthony Scholarship program.

Most games in a day Aug. 30 among eight days of fun, games and parties.

GREENDALE, Wis. – The third year of the bowling industry’s rededication to National Bowling Week is on the horizon with the biggest focus being setting a world record.

This year’s National Bowling Week is scheduled for Aug. 23-30, one day longer than the last two years. That’s because the eighth day, Saturday, Aug. 30, has been added to set a world record for most games bowled in a day.

Bowling centers nationwide are being asked to implement events to generate traffic, record the total number of games bowled in a 24-hour period and report the number to Strike Ten Entertainment. Each participating bowler will receive a commemorative certificate of authenticity for their help in setting the world record. Certificates are available at participating centers and in the National Bowling Week sections of bowl.com, bpaa.com and gobowling.com.

National Bowling Week recognizes the nation’s No. 1 participatory sport with more than 67.2 million people age 6 and older having bowled in 2007, up more than 5 percent since 2005. In addition to the world record effort, bowling centers will host a variety of events, games and parties. These include free coaching clinics, free game passes, community days, special tournaments, Bowling Blast-Off youth events and quick and easy league sign-ups.

Also available this year is a commemorative National Bowling Week stamp. The third in a limited edition series is available in sheets of 20 for $11.50. Stamps are available through bpaa.com, gobowling.com and ibpsia.com or by calling (800) 343-1329.

National Bowling Week is sponsored by the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America, International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association, Professional Bowlers Association, Strike Ten Entertainment and the United States Bowling Congress.
