Dayton Bowling Associations to Merge Operations
The Greater Dayton USBC Bowling Association (GDUSBCBA), The Greater Dayton USBC Women’s Bowling Association (GDUSBCWBA), and The Dayton USBC Youth proudly announce their intention to merge operations under the governance of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) effective August 1, 2009.
For more than 50 years these individual organizations have served the sport of organized bowling in the greater Dayton area. The Greater Dayton USBC, as it will be known, will serve approximately 10,000 men, women and youth bowlers in the Dayton, Wilmington and Hillsboro area. “As Tom Sortman, President of the GDBA, explains, “A driving force behind this merger is the desire to consolidate services and combine efforts to strengthen and grow organized bowling in our communities. Each of our organizations now conducts local tournaments and provides membership services for USBC members. Combining our organizations will create a more cohesive and streamlined service delivery process for the benefit of all our members and bowling proprietors.”
The Dayton merger follows a merger at the national level in January 2005, when The United States Bowling Congress officially launched as the organization to serve amateur adult and youth bowlers across the United States. The USBC brought together the American Bowling Congress (ABC), the Women’s International Bowling Congress (WIBC), Young American Bowling Alliance (YABA) and USA Bowling. Today USBC serves more than 2.6 million members. USBC is the national governing body for bowling as recognized by the United States Olympic Committee.
USBC, State and Local Associations are organized to advance the sport of bowling by fostering local, state, and national competition. The Greater Dayton USBC supports and promotes values that include credibility, dedication, excellence, heritage, inclusiveness, integrity, philanthropy and sportsmanship.
As the Greater Dayton USBC evolves, applications are being accepted for members to serve on the Board of Directors. A volunteer organization, the new Board will be made up of: one (1) president, three (3) vice presidents, seven (7) representatives from the members of the Greater Dayton Bowling Association, seven (7) representatives from the members of the Greater Dayton Women’s Bowling Association, and four (4) representatives from the Dayton USBC Youth.
In addition, GDWBA President Susan Fillers states, “We also are seeking candidates for the position of Association Manager. This position is the “face” of our organization, providing day-to-day operations support and customer service to our members who call or visit our office. Overall, we are looking for members for our Association who will translate their enthusiasm for the game into actively planning, executing and promoting the services and recognition programs our organization has to offer for the benefit of our members.”
A “special” meeting will be conducted to approve the By-Laws and elect the Board of Directors. This meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 6:00 PM at our association headquarters (50 Walnut Street) and is open to all members of the current local associations. Once the new Board is installed they will review applicants, and hire an Association Manager to become effective by July 6, 2009.
