Hall of Fame

To all Greater Dayton USBC Members:

The Hall of Fame committee of the Greater Dayton USBC is pleased to present the new selection process, ballot criteria, and nomination forms for the combined GDUSBC Hall of Fame. We spent over one hundred hours researching, discussing, listening to input from current Hall of Fame members and sanitizing the new information. As a merged association, it was imperative that we create a single Hall of Fame with uniform criteria that would apply to both men and women. We looked at thirteen (13) major associations across the country in order to glean the best ideas from work these associations had done. You can see by the attached document that Dayton is certainly aligned with these associations in the Superior Performance category when it comes to age and years in local association which was one of our primary goals.

Check out the new criteria here.

We hope that you will take the time to review the new process and forms and support our effort. Please feel free to contact the committee chairman, Jeff Fleck, at 937-272-4480 or jeff_fleck@sbcglobal.net with any questions. In order to nominate someone please print the appropriate file from the website, fill in the information, get the required three signatures and submit to the GDUSBC office by March 31st.

We have listed some questions and answers below to help explain the new process and criteria.

What has changed?

The minimum age for Superior Performance is now 35 years of age as of March 31st of the season in which a person is nominated. Minimum age for Meritorious Service is 45 as of March 31st. The Veteran category minimum age is 55 and out of bowling for 5 years or 60 and still bowling. All of these categories require at least 15 years as a member of the GDUSBC. Both Veteran and Meritorious Service categories will be reviewed by the HOF committee and approved by the board while the Superior Performance category will continue to have a ballot and voting by current Hall of Fame members and Board members. All nomination forms in all 3 categories will require 3 signatures from current HOF members or Board members.

How does the Superior Performance criteria work?

The Superior Performance criteria is a list of the minimum bowling accomplishments a bowler (man or woman) must have in order to be placed on the ballot. A nominee must meet all 4 items in section 1 and at least 5 out of 6 in section 2. We have also provided some additional accomplishments that may be substituted for items in section 2. See the attached document for detailed information.

How does voting work for Superior Performance?

Up to 5 candidates (man or woman) will be on the yearly ballot. You may vote for any number of candidates from none to all. Please remember, these nominees are not in competition with each other. Cast your ballot for any and all nominees that you feel are deserving of the honor regardless whether a man or a woman. Nominees must receive votes on at least 2/3rds of the ballots cast in order to be elected to the Hall of Fame in Superior Performance.

What if more than 5 candidates are nominated in the Superior Performance category for a season?

The HOF committee will review the nomination forms and achievements and rank whom they feel are the top 5 for that year. Those 5 will remain on the ballot until voted in or for 4 years whichever comes first. If a nominee is not on the ballot, he/she will be part of the ranking process each season that there are more than 5 candidates until placed on the ballot. Once on ballot, the 4 year clock will begin. A person who spends 4 years on the ballot and does not get elected, can be re-nominated one additional time for another 4 year stay on the ballot. We see the potential for more than 5 nominees occurring the first few years because of the age drop, but this should be less frequent as the deserving folks are elected. We have included a fictitious example on the site to help explain this process.
